Choosing What I Consume
Eating wholesome foods keeps your body healthy, and chewing on great thoughts keeps your mind in top shape. Just as you have choice about what you eat, you can select the kinds of thoughts you take in. Your mind is yours to take care of, and it is up to you to nourish it. The quality of your life reflects the quality of your thoughts, and there is no benefit in swallowing toxic thoughts. Reject harmful thoughts the same way you throw away rotten food. Your mental and physical health is dependent on what you consume, and your ability to choose well depends on your solar plexus chakra being balanced. One way to balance this chakra is through conscious food consumption. This cultivates your capacity to make choices that enhance your well-being and the well-being of others. Foods that balance Manipuri include bananas, granola, whole grains, flax, sunflower seeds, cheese, and yogurt.
For this practice, select from the above foods. Give thanks or pray before eating. Smell a spoonful of food, place it in your mouth, and wait a moment. Then eat with your eyes closed, chewing slowly. When finished, sit quietly. Think about great thoughts that generate love, resolve, and optimism. Conclude by affirming, “I choose to eat wholesome foods and thoughts.”
